Course Outline - Merchandise Planning 101

Who should attend?

This two day course is designed for team members currently working as Assistant Planners, Allocators or Junior Planners. Having an understanding of some basic retail financial calculations, such as margins  and the language of retail is desirable but not essential.

What's covered?

The course takes participants on a journey through the merchandise planning cycle: starting at Setting Targets, we explore Range Planning , Buying and Allocating stock, sizing orders, managing key items, reviewing performance, markdowns, managing the financials through the OTB and finally post-seasonal analysis and the importance of GMROI as well as other measures of success.

What to expect

The course is designed to challenge!  It's not "death by Powerpoint".  We work through the various aspects, thinking about the issues and implications.  We are not trying to deliver an Excel course, so our worked examples are done manually with a calculator, pen and paper - not on a pre-filled spreadsheet.  This is a much more powerful way to fully understand the fundamentals.
